Our Mission:
KISHAW is a non-profit organization designed for the enjoyment of the outdoors, mainly through hiking. Our group consists of single adults of all ages from diverse backgrounds who share the common interest of enjoying nature, while staying active. We offer a range of activities to accommodate people at various fitness levels.
It is our intent to provide a fun way to unwind and to experience nature, to provide a venue through which to meet quality people, and to promote a healthy respect for the environment, as well as for each other.
Come hike with us, and get back to nature.
We hike every Sunday, snow, rain or shine. The Sunday hikes are 5 to 8 miles (2.5-4 hours) in length. NOTE: We may offer shorter, slower-paced hikes at the same trailhead when possible. See the hike leader. We leave the meeting locations at 9.00am , 10:30 am , or 11:30am depending on location of the hike. Hikers are strongly encouraged to arrive 15 minutes before the posted times; we will attempt to depart as a group by the stated leave time. For a recording with details of next week's hike, call 502-894-0579.
We carpool from the meeting place to the hike; riders should chip in $3-$7 to the car owner for gas and wear and tear. Some parks charge admission; usually the car load will split this. There is no charge to hike with us, but you are encouraged to become a member after a few hikes. Dues are $12 per year.
There can be some danger in hiking. Please be aware that you hike at your own risk. The hike leader and other hikers are not responsible for your health or safety.
Hikes last 2 to 4 hours. Wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Bring water to drink, snacks to eat on the trail, and hiking or walking shoes. For 9:00 a.m. hikes, pack a lunch to eat on the trail. Most of us eat out together after the hike (those who aren't eating after a hike can carpool together). Typically 15-20 people show up for a Sunday hike (as few as 3 or as many as 35, depending on the weather and what else is going on). Gender mix averages out about equal. Age range is from upper 20s into 70s, with most 35-60.
We also have other social and recreational activities, such as canoe trips, camping trips, parties, and movies, concerts, and plays.

NOTE: NEW INFO Hikers are strongly encouraged to arrive 15 minutes before the posted times; we will attempt to depart at stated leave time.
Every Tuesday and Thursday: Walk on the Seneca Park Walking Track off Cannons Lane. Meet at 6:30 p.m. on the walkway in front of the restrooms on Rock Creek Drive (near the playground). The path is 1.2 miles; typically people will do three laps. (The walking path is between Rock Creek Drive and Pee Wee Reese Drive off Cannons Lane, about 4 blocks south of Lexington Road and about 3/4 mile north of I-64.}
At both places, we walk counterclockwise. (Latecomers may want to start out clockwise to meet the group.) Walkers will often go to a restaurant after the walk.
